HERE TO PLAY, INC.

The Denver Over 60 Baseball league is underway. This year we have 10 teams playing  in what should be a fun and exciting season.
We play competitive baseball each Thursday from early spring through August. This year we are playing a 14 game regular season followed by  a round of playoff games to determine a new champion.  Rules are the same as baseball anywhere with a few special adjustments unique to our age group. Such as no stealing of bases or advancing on the base paths when the ball gets away from the catcher. Also a teams line up is made up of the total number of players in the dugout that day. Everyone plays, everyone bats unless by their choice. Players can play a defensive position take a break and then go back in the field.  These rule adjustments and a few others make for a fun and competitive game even at our some what advanced age group. Games are spirited,  lively and surprisingly competitive. Not too many scouts are in the stands at our games and good seats are usually available.

The over 60 baseball community lost one of our own April 4th when Henry Montoya passed away unexpectedly. Henry was a longtime member of the A’s team and was usually found behind the plate performing the duties of catcher. Henry was someone who you always looked forward to seeing at the ballpark.  He always had a great smile, was never down or negative and never seemed to be having a down day. I was told once that people won’t always remember what you say, but they will remember how your words made them feel, and Henry always made everyone around him feel better. We will miss Henry. May he rest in peace. Your safe at home baseball brother.
